On a bright sunny morning, I was stuck with the news that my department was being shifted to the New York office. With merely a distance of 73 miles from Baton Rouge, I planned not to shift my family to the new city until the holiday season – and this was one of the best decision I ever made in my life!
My company asked me to find a moving company that could move the goods in a short notice!
This was like “putting a hand in the lion’s den and hoping the lion won’t bite it”. I never procured the services of the movers before and with the daily tasks rallied upon me, I had little or no time to do the research. Like millions of people on the internet, I took to the internet and used Google to find the best moving company.
Upon requesting, Google bombarded me with thousands of local moving companies. I found a company that dedicatedly provides Moving Services in New York and Baton Rouge. I thought that the work would be simple. The movers came to the office, gave me a quote and we decided upon a date. There was no discussion of the packing and I was given a quote.
On a moving day, the movers came and asked why the goods are not packed and ready to transport. I said this is the mover’s job and you should take care of it. They started packing the goods and the whole department’s work was put on hold.
They took a lot of time, literally hours packing the goods and shifting them to the moving trucks. The move which was supposed to be completed in some hours took two days to complete. To add to the misery, the final bill that the company received was far more than the original quote. Upon inquiry, the moving company stated that this is due to the additional hours, the packing material.
Those liars even put the tolls in the bills – and that was it. I decided that I would never use these movers again.
A couple of months passed and now it the time to move my family to New York. My last moving experience was a very bad one, so I decided to ask for the help of my friend. He gave me the name of the company he used when he was moving to New York. I contacted the moving company and asked them to come to visit my place. Upon the arrival, I immediately bombarded him with moving queries.
He was patient as a snail and answered all the questions. I also told him about the additional payment I had to make last time. He gave me the assurance that his company was not going to increase the final price – like I was going to believe it. Hah! I insisted that I want everything in writing.
He gave me the final bill and as promised they came the next day to move the goods. I was very happy with their services and my thoughts about the moving company changed overnight.
Now I realized that it is the matter of finding the right moving partner otherwise the move will turn into a disaster.
